A core component of any RTS game is the campaign. It’s an amazing way to introduce the playable factions and key mechanics, while helping players get invested into the game through a story.
There’s still a ton to learn about Stormgate, with only the slightest tidbits of lore being revealed for the game. However, with that being said, it has been confirmed that yes, Stormgate will have a campaign.
We don’t know exactly what it will include and it’s very likely that the campaign won’t be in the beta. Instead, we’ll probably get to explore the world of Stormgate once the game is fully released.
How Will The Stormgate Campaign Work?
As mentioned, we’re still waiting on details, so everything here is still subject to change. Although, we can make assumptions based on previous RTS games and the experience of the team, which are pretty likely to be accurate.
We’ll likely see the Stormgate campaign play out similarly to the Blizzard RTS games. The campaign will be split up into acts for different races, with each race advancing their own story over a set of progressive missions.
There will likely be varying difficulty levels and we’ll see a range of different missions, ranging from faction introductions to base building, hero development, special challenges and more.
One thing that has already been confirmed about the campaign is that it will be ever-evolving. Stormgate is planned for the long term and the campaign is a key component that will keep on growing. New acts and missions will be added post-launch, with the story aiming to span for years and possibly even tying in with the game’s competitive seasons.

The Stormgate campaign has been mentioned in various Frost Giant interviews. We know there are grand plans and it will be a core feature of the free-to-play game. As such, it’s safe to assume that the initial campaign will be free to play.
However, it’s possible that missions that come after the base campaign may have to be purchased. They may come as part of a battle pass, or simply alongside other F2P features like cosmetics. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens closer to the release date.
